One size doesn't fit all
In this session, we will explore alternative learning options for our students through digital curriculum and on-line learning. Through a series of stories about students I've taught, my daughter and my own educational hiccups, participants will learn that one size doesn't fit all and schools have an obligation to provide multiple options for students and families to learn when the traditional brick & mortar classroom does not meet a child's needs.

School sucked for me growing up. If we're going to be honest, I hated school until about my 10th grade year. Lots of reasons why, and I guess you could say the root cause was a troubled home life. I failed four of my six classes in 8th grade, missing more classes than I attended... Read More →

Make Your Own Escape Rooms
Our Student Tech Club created an Escape Room event for the community. They turned the back rooms of the media center into a futuristic space ship and a 1940's basement. The students created puzzles and tasks that lead the participants through a series of locked rooms in order to escape. This event raised over $1,200 for our MakerSpace and they are planning two new rooms for this year's event. This poster session will allow participants to talk to the students who will explain the process and the opportunities for student agency in the creation and running of this great event.

Curating in the Classroom
Finding information on the Internet is a crucial skill for our students. Considering the massive amounts of information that is being uploaded to the internet every minute, sifting through and organizing information can be a daunting task. In this session, participants will learn tools and methods to teach students how to not only become collectors of information, but how to analyze and digitally sort the information in meaningful ways.
